LeBron James will return from a foot injury before the end of the season.
American professional basketball player LeBron James Sr will not undergo surgery for his foot injury.
The 38-year-old James got injured playing for the Los Angeles Lakers away against the Dallas Mavericks at the weekend.
Despite sustaining the injury in the second half of the game, James stayed on to will his team to victory.
After the game, James was spotted limping as the severity of his injury was yet to be determined.
James was spotted in the Lakers' next game away against the Memphis Grizzlies wearing a protective boot.
Since then, James also missed the away game against the Oklahoma City Thunder and had a scan meeting with several specialists to determine the severity of the injury.
James to avoid surgery
On Thursday, March 2, several reports confirmed that James will not be having surgery on his injured foot.
The lack of surgery for James' injury was confirmed on the podcast of Yahho Sports NBA insider Chris Haynes.
Haynes stated that James could play for the Lakers if it was a playoff fixture and will not need surgery to return to action before the end of the season.
He said, “So what I can say on LeBron is that sources did inform me that he will not require surgery.
“That’s good news. … Could LeBron get out there and play right now? It’d be a risk, but I think he probably could if he necessarily had to.
"But it’s too much of a risk. It’s too much pain right now. The plan right now is to get him as much time to heal for this rehab process, but the Lakers have got to win. They’ve got to keep winning. They’ve got to buy him time.”
The Lakers are embroiled in a battle for playoff season and the absence of James provides a difficult challenge for the squad led by Head Coach Darvin Ham.
A statement by the Lakers said, "LeBron James has been evaluated by Lakers team physicians and medical staff, and it has been determined that he has sustained a right foot tendon injury. James will be reevaluated in approximately three weeks."
James who broke the NBA All-time scoring record is averaging 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game shooting 50.1 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from beyond the arc.
James hopeful the team holds down the fort is expected to return to the Lakers fold before the end of the regular season.
