The youngster with the G League affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, put on a performance for the ages in Salt Lake City in the early hours of Sunday, February 19, 2023.
As the best players in the NBA decide to not take part in the Slam Dunk contest, the event has gotten less hype than it used to in the days of Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon.
This year's field reflected that as McClung battled, Trey Murphy III of the New Orleans Pelicans, Jericho Sims of the New York Knicks, and KJ Martin of the Houston Rockets for the most coveted award of the All-Star weekend.
McClung wins the Slam dunk contest
As soon as his first dunk, it became clear that McClung came to put on a show and would be difficult to stop.
In all his attempts it was impossible for any of the judges to give him anything less than a perfect 50 score.
McClung has been a cult hero in the basketball world with viral high school dunk mixtapes on social media.
The youngster not heavily scouted out of college, and now playing in the G League started off the night with his best work of the night.
To start off McClung jumped over a guy sitting on top of another guy's shoulders the tapped the basketball off the backboard throwing it down with both hands.
It was a massive statement from the youngster to show that he belonged and earned a 50 across the board from the judges.
His second attempt was just as good although four of the five judges gave him a 50.
With some good ball handling and a run-up, McClung got to the basket to produce a 360 double-handed windmill dunk.
McClung advanced to the final and was joined by Murphy III who missed his first attempt on purpose just to have teammate Jose Alvarado steal the ball from behind and set him up for an alley-oop.
In the finals, McClung, dropped some never-before-seen dunks time and again with incomparable aerial work.
To seal the win, McClung in his final attempt of the night flew in for an outstanding 540-degree dunk to send the crowd wild.
