Kevin Love and the Cleveland Cavaliers have completed a contract buyout making him a free agent and eligible to go wherever he wants.
Kevin Love joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 after LeBron James personally recruited him in pursuit of a championship
He was a key part of the 2016 title-winning team and signed a $120 Million multi-year extension in 2018.
The last few years have been full of ups and downs for Kevin Love. He saw his role on the team diminish gradually and in the last two years, fully became a role player.
This season he has only averaged 8.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 20 minutes per game which are career lows for him.
However, Love averaged 17.2 points and 10.5 rebounds over parts of 15 NBA seasons with Cleveland and Minnesota.
At his best he was a stretch-four who was able to shoot the three and defend at a decent rate.
Love has been out of the team in recent weeks and it just made sense for both parties to move on. He did not play in any of Cleveland’s last 12 games before the All-Star break and his representatives approached the Cavaliers about the buyout.
According to The Athletic, Miami Heat have emerged as front runners to acquire the 34-year-old.
Despite his recent injury troubles and declining numbers, Love remains a competent basketball player and is clearly betting on himself.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently fourth in the eastern conference.
