LAUTECH rejoices thanks to the new basketball court from the Minister of sports as he sets up the Ogbomosho Rockets.
Sunday Dare the Honourable Minister of Sports and Youth Development Sunday Dare made waves in the Oyo State basketball scene.
On Saturday, January 7, 2023, Dare commissioned a newly revamped basketball court at the prestigious Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria.
The Minister decided to give back to his community through the new basketball Court which was financed by several stakeholders of the game.
Dare graced the ceremony at the LAUTECH with former captain of the Nigerian basketball men's team Olumide Oyedeji as well as Engr. Habu Gumel President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee.
The new court by Dare will serve as an important asset to the development of basketball in LAUTECH
Sunday Dare and basketball in Nigeria
Since his appointment by President Muahhamdu Buhari, Dare has been involved in certain decisions on basketball in Nigeria.
He has taken on the responsibility of meeting with D'Tigers Head Coach Mike Brown on several occasions.
Dare also played a role in a ban on basketball in the country following disagreements with the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF).
The ban cost Nigeria's women's team known as D'Tigress their spot at the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

Following the new court in LAUTECH, Dare on his trip to Oyo also established a basketball team.
The new team is called the Ogbomosho Rockets and took to the new court in red jersey along with Dare.
