The Cape Town Tigers got the needed win and will be among the eight-team that will feature in the 2023 BAL Playoff in Kigali.

Following the end of the Nile Conference held in Cairo, Egypt, the eight teams for the 2023 BAL Playoff have been determined.

After defeating City Oilers 80-70, Mr Eazi's Cape Town Tigers clinched the final slot for the Playoffs, which begins on May 20 and go through to May 27.

The defending South African champions required a decisive victory to go to the Playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Nile Conference clubs Petro de Luanda, Al Ahly, and Ferroviario da Beira will also go to the next round.

Cape Town Tigers book BAL Playoff spot

The Cape Town Tigers entered the first game of the day with a diminished roster.

Due to health reasons, Zaire Wade, Evans Ganapamo, and Joshua Hall missed the crucial game, but their back squad performed admirably notwithstanding.

In preventing City Oilers from moving on to the Playoffs, Samkelo Cele, Pieter Prinsloo, and Nigerian D'Tigers player Michael Gnibjie all played significant roles.

James Justice Jr., one of the Oilers' most dangerous scorers, was held to just 9 points in 40 minutes of play while Falando Jones, the only other Oilers player to reach double figures, finished with 27 points.

The Tigers overcame what seemed to be an insurmountable task with the help of Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union, and a few of the team's investors. Wade will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2023.

Cele, who had a game-high 28 points, served as the face of Cape Town's valiant effort.

The City Oilers would have advanced to the next round with a victory, but the Tigers were determined to win.
