NBA Playoffs: Lakers, Celtics, Thunder and Magic win
Here is a recap of day 8 of the NBA playoffs featuring wins from the Lakers, Celtics, Thunder, and Magic.
Similar to the previous year, when the Nuggets defeated the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, Denver's performance in the closing minutes of the game proved to be crucial.
With 25 points, 20 rebounds, and nine assists, Nikola Jokić wrapped up his outstanding series, and Michael Porter Jr. finished with 26 points.
Due to a shoulder injury, Anthony Davis played with 17 points and 15 rebounds but was not heavily involved in the offense in the last minutes of play.
The Nuggets will play the Minnesota Timberwolves in a second-round series to continue their championship defense.
The Timberwolves won their round of 32 matchup with the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.
Thunder sweep Pelicans
With 24 points apiece from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 97-89 to complete a four-game series sweep.
The Thunder, who outscored New Orleans by an average of 15.8 points per game to easily seal their spot in the second round, answered concerns about their lack of playoff experience. They are the youngest team to ever win a conference's top seed.
Zion Williamson missed the Pelicans' series because of a hamstring strain, and Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum were unable to step up to the plate.
Celtics beat Heat
With 38 points from Derrick White, the Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 102-88 to take a 3-1 series lead, despite Kristaps Porzingis' injury.
With 2:27 left in the second quarter, Porzingis left the game due to stiffness in his right calf and did not come back.
White, who is more well-known for his defensive efforts, scored 38 points, a career high for both the regular and postseason, on 8 of 15 3-point attempts.
Leading the Heat with 25 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists was Bam Adebayo.
