After 16 seasons, former NBA MVP Derrick Rose is retiring from basketball.

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, longtime NBA veteran and former league MVP Derrick Rose declared his retirement from the game.

Rose played in the NBA for 16 seasons, the first seven of which he spent with the Chicago Bulls after being selected first overall in the 2008 draft out of the University of Memphis.

In addition to sharing his news on social media, Rose ran passionate tributes to basketball in newspaper ads in each of the six NBA cities where he played.

During his NBA career, Rose played for six different teams, but his tenure with the Bulls will live on in the public memory the most.

In his debut season in the league, the guard earned Rookie of the Year and established himself as the team's face.

In the 2010–11 season, Rose, then 22 years old, averaged 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per game.

At the end of the season, the guard became the youngest-ever MVP winner, taking home the prestigious Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Rose's career was marred by injuries for the remainder of it after he tore his ACL against the Philadelphia 76ers during the playoffs the following season.

Rose continued to play basketball, spending time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Memphis Grizzlies.

Three-time All-Star Rose averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds during his career.
