Mike Brown is back as the D'Tigers Head Coach as NBBF hails his achievements with the Sacramento Kings.
The Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) have confirmed the position of American basketball coach Michael Brown.
After the Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics to win the 2022 NBA Championship, Mike Brown stepped down from the assistant coach position.
Just last year Brown led the Golden State Warriors to victory against the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 4 as Head Coach Steve Kerr entered covid-19 protocols.
During his time as an associate coach with the Golden State Warriors, he won three NBA Championships.
He left to join the Warriors' California rivals the Sacramento Kings to start the new season.
Brown in his first season led the Sacramento Kings including Nigerian star Chimezie Metu to their first playoff series in 16 years.
NBBF and Mike Brown
After a disappointing outing for the Nigerian senior men's basketball team at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, there was a coaching change.
The NBBF appointed Mike Brown while he was an assistant coach with the Warriors.
He led D'Tigers to the group stage of the Men's basketball event of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics delayed to 2021 due to Covid.
Since then Brown's association with D'Tigers and the NBBF has been mute.
River's hoopers coach Ogoh Odaudu stepped in to lead the team as they failed to qualify for the 2023 FIBA Men's World Cup.
Following the failure to qualify for the World Cup, the NBBF has now confirmed that Brown is the coach of D'Tigers.
The message by the NBBF said, "MIKE BROWN! LIGHT THE BEAM!.
"He has consistently done the impossible. No one gave him a chance at the beginning of this season.
"Currently ranked the best coach in the NBA this season.
"He remains the indefatigable coach of the Nigerian National team @nigeriabasketball
"LONG LIVE MIKE BROWN. LONG LIVE D’TIGERS LONG LIVE NBBF."
