Ogunbowale and Ogwumike's inclusion means there will be Nigerian representation at the 2023 WNBA All-Star Game.

There will be Nigerian representation at the 2023 WNBA All-Star game, as Arike Ogunbowale and Nneka Ogwumike made the team.

Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale as well as Los Angeles Sparks veteran Nneka Ogwumike made the WNBA All-Star team.

Arike Ogunbowale makes All-Star team

With a game-high 26 points in the WNBA All-Stars' victory over the USA Basketball Women's National Team, Arike Ogunbowale of the Wings was named the 2021 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game MVP. 

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States of America immigrant parents Yolanda and Gregory Ogunbowale, Arike is of Nigerian descent.

Ogunbowale has been in the top five scorers each of the previous four seasons and led the league in scoring in 2020. 

With 22.7 ppg, she is second in made threes and sits third in scoring in 2023. 

She has scored at least 30 points in 14 straight games since joining the league in 2019, which is the most of any player in that time period, and her 41 points against Seattle on June 17 set a career high.

Ogunbowale has been chosen for three All-Star games in his career, but this is his first selection as a starter.

She became the fifth player in WNBA history to reach to score 2500 points  on June 11 in New York. 

On May 30, Ogunbowale was chosen as the Western Conference Player of the Week, and on May 31, she was chosen as the Kia Western Conference Player of the Month.

Nneka Ogwumike makes WNBA All-Star team

Ogwumike, a starter for the second year in a row, is fifth in 2023 in rebounding (9.5 rpg) and sixth in scoring (19.7 ppg).

Her 9.7 rebounds per game are a career high, and her 19.7 points per game are on par with the career-high total she recorded during her MVP season of 2016. 

Ogwumike, a five-time All-WNBA Team selection, assisted the Sparks in capturing the 2016 WNBA title.

She has six double-doubles under her belt, is shooting 51.2% from the field, and has 507 steals overall to lead the LA Sparks club. 

Ogwumike won the Western Conference Player of the Week award for games played from May 29 to June 4 for the 14th time in her career. 

The 2016 WNBA MVP, 2016 WNBA Champion, seven-time All-Star, four-time All-WNBA Team, five-time All-Defensive Team member, and three-time Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award winner are just a few of Ogwumike's career accomplishments.
