Paris 2024: We have appropriate fear: Steph Curry preaches caution ahead of USA vs South Sudan

Team USA head coach Steve Kerr and star player Steph Curry have urged caution ahead of their Paris 2024 Olympics matchup against South Sudan.

Despite the African nation's lack of current NBA players on their roster. South Sudan, making their Olympic debut, pulled off a surprise win over Puerto Rico in their opener and pushed Team USA to the limit in a one-point loss in a recent friendly in London.

"We have appropriate fear," said Steph Curry, who has played under Kerr for a decade with the Golden State Warriors.

"We know we can't just sleepwalk through any game and feel like you're going to win."

South Sudan, led by former NBA player and current Houston Rockets assistant coach Royal Ivey, boasts a unique playing style that features five 3-point shooting threats on the court at all times, aiming to stretch opponents' defenses.

This strategy has already yielded success, with 14 three-pointers made against Team USA in London and 10 more against Puerto Rico.

Kerr's cautious approach is warranted, as South Sudan's unconventional style and momentum from their Olympic opener make them a formidable opponent. Team USA will need to be on high alert to avoid an upset.
