BAL: Rivers Hoopers start with 77-68 win against AS Dounaes
Nigerian representatives Rivers Hoopers start 2024 BAL with a 77-68 win against AS Dounaes.
When the Tunisian champs took the field, they knew they had to win, but as the match went on, things got worse.
Mohamed Kirdani, the head coach of US Monastir, made every effort imaginable, yet nothing was successful for his team.
Chris Crawford was replaced by George Williams in the starting lineup, but three minutes into the game, the Hoopers were ahead 12-3, forcing Kirdani to request a timeout that had little to no impact.
Williams was replaced by Crawford, but the Hoopers' sense of urgency was too much to handle.
In this game, the Tunisian team trailed Rivers Hoopers by 20 (49-29) at the half. Monastir had led by one (40-39) against APR and trailed by one (32-31) against AS Douanes.
With his ability to score from nearly anywhere on the court, Kelvin Amayo terrified US Monastir's defense en route to a game-high 27 points.
Amayo shot 10-for-23, with a 6-for-17 performance from behind the arc.
Perry finished with 19 points on 4-for-7 shooting from long range, followed by 16 and 13 points from Devine Eke and Peter Olisemeka.
Alternatives The only American Monastirs to score in double digits were Sadio Doucoure and Chris Crawford, who concluded with 21 and 17 points, respectively.
Rivers Hoopers became the only team in the 2024 Sahara Conference to go through their first round without losing after their victory over US Monastir.
Following a rest day on Wednesday, the second round of the Sahara Conference gets underway on Thursday. US Monastir will play Rwanda's APR, while Rivers Hoopers will take on hosts AS Douanes.
