The Women's division in the 2023 National Basketball League has been nothing short of amazing thus far, with teams competing at a far higher level than compared to previous seasons. Four games were played across week eight of the season, and here is the team of the week
Guard: Ines Kanyamunza - KIU Rangers
Having only averaged seven points this season, Kanyamunza exploded on Saturday with 26 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and four steals in their massive blowout 105- 26 win against the Kampala University Lady's Basketball Club.
The win takes their season record of the Rangers to 5-3, and they currently sit in fifth place on the table.
Momentum is clearly on their side as they have won their last three encounters and are gathering the correct speed as the halfway point of the season approaches.
Guard: Shillah Lamunu - UCU Lady Canons
Handed the start on Friday evening, Lamunu didn't let first-time head coach Shakirah Nanvubya down with an impressive double-double to help her side to the win. She scored 11 points and 13 rebounds while providing two assists in the win.
A significant victory for defending champions as they try and chase down the teams above them in the JKL Lady Dolphins and the JT Lady Jaguars.
Forward: Hajjara Najjuko - UCU Lady Canons
Making her return from an injury layoff that kept her out since last October. Hajjara Najjuko came off the bench to score a team and game-high 22 points and make an immediate impact on her side to win 79- 47 over the Miracle Eaglets whilst being on a minutes restriction.
Her return will be celebrated by her teammates and the Lady Canons fans countrywide, as the side has missed her defensive capabilities and leadership on the court.
Centre: Hope Akello - JKL Lady Dolphins
Averaging a double-double this season, Hope Akello was once again critical in her side's victory against the on Wednesday night.
She posted another one with 19 points and ten rebounds in an efficient 20 minutes of action the game in a win that took her side to second on the table and grabbed a bounce-back win after their defeat against the JT Lady Jaguars.
Akello is currently averaging 14.1 points per game while collecting 12.1 points.
Forward: Brenda Ekone - JKL Lady Dolphins
The reigning MVP has been as impressive as ever this season for her side, with her offensive bag giving loads of opposition defences sleepless nights.
On Wednesday night, she was at her brilliant best as she scored 24 points off the bench against a helpless Angels basketball club in league action.
She is currently in the top five in the league scoring 17.4 points per game, and a huge reason why her side is sitting joint second in the table.
