The San Antonio Spurs got the number one pick at the NBA Draft Lottery.
The first choice in next month's NBA draft has been given to the San Antonio Spurs, putting them in a prime position to choose French prodigy Victor Wembanyama.
San Antonio was drawn first in the NBA lottery to determine who gets the coveted number one selection on June 22 in New York.
San Antonio were last in the Western Conference as they concluded the regular season with a 22-60 record.
The 19-year-old Wembanyama is predicted to be the first pick in the draft, which features the best rookie talent in basketball, barring a major shock.
Wembanyama on NBA Draft lottery
Speaking after discovering who his new team would probably be Wembanyama was excited and wants to win a championship.
“I can’t really describe it, my heart’s beating.
“I’ve got everyone I love around me, it’s a really special moment that I’m going to remember for the rest of my life.”
“I’m a team player, I’m going to make everything to win as many games as I can. I’m trying to win a (championship) ring ASAP so be ready.”
Tony Parker, a French basketball great who won four NBA titles with San Antonio between 2003 and 2014, is now poised to be followed by Wembanyama.
Wembanyama will also start his NBA career under the guidance of renowned Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, a legend in the league who has led San Antonio to five NBA championships, according to the lottery results.
