The Centre of Excellence is currently hosting the creme de la creme of Nigerian basketball at the Super 8 finals

Eight of the biggest and best teams in Nigeria are currently going head-to-head at the 2022 Nigerian Basketball Final 8 at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

Day three of the finals saw Kano Pillars push defending champions Rivers Hoopers to their maximum limit in the final game of the day.

The organisers indeed left the best for the last as Hoopers and Pillars needed overtime to separate each other.

Wike Boys, Hoopers, eventually sealed a tight 69-67 win over the gallant Pillars to maintain their stainless start to the finals.

It was the third consecutive win for the Hoopers, who look on course to defend their title.

The battle between the Rivers State team and their counterparts from Kano was the highest-scoring game so far in the Final 8.

Kwara Falcons remain stainless

Another team giving defending champions Hoopers a run for their money is Kwara Falcons from Kwara State.

In another keenly contested encounter, the Falcons had to dig deep to overcome Gombe Bulls.

The Bulls proved to be bullish for first two quarters before a slow third quarter propelled the Falcons to a 67-61 win.

With the win, the Falcons join Hoopers to register three successive wins in the Super 8.

Elsewhere,

Police Baton is going through it in the Super 8 following another defeat in the competition, a third in a row.

The Baton boys were no match for Nigeria Customs in the force derby after a 22-point defeat. This was after they were beaten by the Benue Braves on Tuesday.

Lagos Islanders joined the Baton Boys in the same WhatsAppp group after also picking up their third defeat in a close encounter against Benue Braves .

The Braves defeated the Lagos-based side 59-58 for their second win of the tournament.

Day 4 fixtures

The Super 8 continues on Thursday, with four super games slated for day four. Hoopers take on Benue Braves while Falcons battle the Customs. Pillars are at home to the Islanders, with Bulls taking on the Baton Boys from Police.
