Okot received the 2022 Most Promising Girl gong at the Sports Personality of the Year Awards and she was also named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2022 Africa Qualifiers.

Budding basketballer Madina Okot is among the 12-member Kenya ladies national team (Lionesses) squad heading for the FIBA Africa AfroBasket 2023 Zone Five Qualifiers slated for February 14-19 in Kampala, Uganda.

Okot comes as a crucial player to the team as she was an integral part of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) team that clinched the national title. Okot was also part of Kenya’s 3×3 team to the Commonwealth Games and was a vital part of the Under-23 side that qualified for the 3×3 World Championships in Romania for the first time.

Meanwhile, internationals Victoria Reynolds of Immortal TCars form Portugal, Mercy Wanyama of AD Cortegada, Spain and Rose Ouma of Al Nasr Cultural & Sport Club, Qatar who captained the side in the last show are also in the squad.

The six-day event has also attracted hosts Uganda, South Sudan and Egypt. The Lionesses have a busy season ahead of them with their next international assignment being the AfroBasket Championships set for July 28-August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda and then the All-Africa Games (August 4-19) in Accra, Ghana.
