But given Joshua's recent remarks, fans might never get to witness this bout again.
Joshua vs Wilder preview
For years, millions of boxing fans eagerly anticipated a matchup between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
When both boxers were still in the running for titles, it was meant to be a titanic battle.
It was scheduled to be a spectacular bout, but a series of setbacks and other circumstances kept the fight from taking place.
There were multiple attempts between 2017 and 2019 to bring the fight to fruition, but it was never successful.
Ultimately, Wilder lost his title to Tyson Fury and "AJ" gave up his unified title to Oleksandr Usyk.
Fans lost all hope for the fight due to Wilder's recent slump, but Joshua hasn't given up yet.
'AJ' is optimistic about the titanic matchup with Wilder despite the small prospects, and he still wants it to take place.
Ade Oladipo questioned the former unified champion in a DAZN interview about whether he was irritated that the matchup with Wilder was not possible.
He responded, “The fight could still happen. For me, why not? I’ve always said it’s not a big deal for me. Strip away the bright lights and the trash talk, it’s only a fight. So yeah I’d fight Wilder.”
Joshua was driven and enthusiastic about the rematch. However, as he disclosed, his immediate priorities are the title fight; beyond that, he has the remainder of the year and Deontay Wilder's potential to rediscover his form.
Why Joshua and Wilder did not happen
As they both signed contracts, there were plans for these two to compete against one another in Saudi Arabia.
They were supposed to play each other in 2024, and AJ defeated Otto Wallin in accordance with the arrangement.
The issue started on Wilder's end when he was shockingly defeated by Joseph Parker.
The "Bronze Bomber" was given another shot, but this time he fell short against Zhilei Zhang in just five rounds, losing for the second time in a row.
