Garcia his former trainer criticized his mentality in the fight against Usyk.

Joshua did not respond well to the criticism by Garcia and let it be known before the fight against Franklin.

In an interview with ID Boxing, Garcia gave an interview of his time with Joshua and his performance against Franklin.

He started off by saying he did not watch the fight but has heard the criticism about Joshua's lack of aggressiveness against Franklin.

Garcia said, "I wasn't able to watch the fight I was in Mexico I had some fights that same day so I didn't see the fight.

"I was reading um uh from you know comments people talking how the fight went and I ended up watching a little clip  and read a lot of people calling me."

Garcia added, "He felt scared you know you could see that he scared his eyes you know he throws a jab or throws up a combination and holds right away.

"Nobody says nothing about Tyson Fury doing that you know, he throws and holds throws and holds pushes yeah those are those guys that big

"So people are criticizing Anthony for something that every heavyweight, every huge fighter that is big that is heavy they have to fight like that.

"When you're such a big guy you have to punch hold you know George Foreman just do the same.

"I think it's just it's just people just criticizing Anthony because they already have that number on him you're the guy that doesn't have the heart you're the guy that's afraid to fight you know.

"That's gonna be the rest of his career you know people criticizing him for not wanting to fight for being afraid."

Garcia on criticism before Franklin fight and Tyson Fury

Garcia then went on to explain that saying Joshua has to be better mentally was not a shot at his work ethic.

It was just an area he needed to improve on as witnessed in their only fight together against Usyk.

Garcia stated that Joshua has 'Yes Men' surrounding him and as a trainer, it was his duty to tell him how to improve.

He concluded, "I need to tell him you know he could be surrounded with nothing but yes men.

"That's fine but the trainer has to be real to him if the trainer is also a Yes Man then you and then the trainer is not a real person.

"That responsibility you know me as a trainer I have that responsibility to say what I see and to and to be honest with him

"I could be a Yes Man and just go out there and just get paid and not give a [ __ ] you know there are trainers like that but I'm not one of them.

"I'm gonna say that if I feel it. I think it was after the fight you know totally lost control of his mind you know the way he acted was not right."

Garcia went on to say that Joshua working with James is great as he is the best trainer in the world.

He advised him to take one or more tune-up fights before targetting reigning WBC champion Tyson Fury.
