'I like making money' - Anthony Joshua says money is the reason he came back to fight Jermaine Franklin
British boxer of Nigerian descent Anthony Joshua has explained the reason for his return to the sport.
Joshua was present for a press conference ahead of his upcoming fight against American boxer Jermaine Franklin.
At the press conference, Joshua unveiled his new trainer American Derrick James ahead of the fight with Franklin.
It is the first outing for Joshua since he lost to Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia back in 2022.
Joshua and Franklin on fight
Joshua at the fight explained how his new trainer has prepared him for the challenge against Franklin.
He revealed that there are no more distractions to his process as he aims to get a victory against Franklin.
“This is the most serious time I’ve taken it in terms of food, sleep, the way I’m training.
“I’ve had to get rid of a lot of distractions in my life to put my heart into the game.
"I made a conscious decision to put my heart into boxing and nothing else. I’ve definitely got that fire.
“I still feel fresh and young, not like a seasoned pro. I’ve got to make the most of it while I’m here. It’s just a blessing to be involved in this sport," Joshua said.
Franklin after a loss to Dillian Whyte is of the opinion that he is able to cause an upset when he takes on Joshua.
The American said: “I’ve always been confident in myself. I never lacked for any confidence. I believe I can beat anybody.
"There’s never a doubt in my mind. If you doubt yourself you’re in the wrong sport. He bleed just like I do.”
Joshua on money
Joshua explained the need to acquire money When asked about his motivation after 13 championship fights in a row.
He said, "Money, money, money. I like making money, straight up this is a prize fighting sport.
"I've been broke, my family has been broke, I know what this shit means and I do it because I'm good at it.
"I hustle hard, when it's all said and done, no one will care about me no more, so I've got to make the most of it while I'm here."
Joshua and Franklin will now return to camp to continue preparation for the fight scheduled to take place at the 02 Arena in London on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
