The news about Wilder, has caused a massive reaction among boxing fans.
In a tweet showcasing the career of one of the heavyweight champions with the longest reign in history, Benson stated that Deontay Wilder was formally retiring from boxing at the age of 39.
Wilder has not been in action since he suffered a knock out loss to Zhilei Zhang in Saudi Arabia.
The loss to the Chinese Zhang was the second loss by Wilder in a space of 12 months.
Wilder was lost to New Zealand star Joseph Parker which stopped the anticipated fight with Nigerian born Anthony Joshua.
The boxing press believed that the Tuscaloosa, Alabama, fighter had already expressed a desire to retire, but Wilder's trainer, Malik Scott, quickly came forth and refuted all of that.
The rumors that suggested Wilder had quit the sport were not unfounded, as the fighter himself stated multiple times that he would have needed to rediscover his passion for boxing.
Wilder and his team are yet to comment on the report he will be retiring in the year 2025.
