Uganda's flyweight pugilist Grace Nankinga has settled for a bronze medal at the Africa Men's and Women's Elite Championships in Cameroon's capital, Yaounde.

Nankinga opened her campaign August 3 in the semi-final stage and was assured a bronze medal and Shs18m as she faced Democratic Republic of Congo opponent Grace Nyembo.

Nyembo nipped Nankinga's campaign in the bud as she overpowered her with a dominant victory by Referee Stops Contest in the first round.

The other semi-finalists include; Solomon Geko (Heavyweight), Erinah Namutebi (light welterweight), Ssali Amiri Wasswa (lightweight), Ukasha Matovu (welterweight) and Okello Ronald (middleweight).

The semi-finalists secured the Shs18 cash prize if they fail to progress, but gold or silver and Shs54 and Shs36m, respectively, await eventual winners in the grand finale.

Wasswa, Okello and Ukasha will also face DRC nationals in their bouts tonight.

Lightweight pugilist Wasswa has so far defeated two boxers advancing from the round of 16 quarter-finals, and now stands a chance to make it to the grand finale.

Wasswa outpointed Irungu Maina of Kenya in the round of 16 and defeated Burkina Faso boxer Naba Ousmane to qualify for the semi-finals. He faces Kitangila Idris in the semi-finals bout.

Ukasha started his campaign in the quarterfinals and defeated Senegalese Cheikh Diop. He will battle with Zengala Boniface in the welterweight semi-finals.

Finally, Ronald Okello will face Tshama David in the middleweight semi-finals after defeating Obama Mangue of Equatorial Guinea in the previous round.
