The sudden death of Segun 'Success' Olanrewaju during a boxing match has plunged the Nigerian boxing community into mourning.
On Saturday, the former National and West African light-heavyweight champion was in the ring battling with Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu
It was reported that Olanrewaju was leading by points and was edging towards winning the bout, which was held at Bukom Boxing Arena.
However, he lost consciousness and suddenly went down and he was later pronounced dead from cardiac arrest.

Disturbing footage has surfaced depicting the moment Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju collapsed in the ring before he was later pronounced dead.
The video was shared on X by Sports Radio Brila FM, with the caption, “One time West African light-heavyweight champion, Olanrewaju Success Segun sadly passes away during a fight with Ghanaian boxer, Jon Mbanugu at the Bukom Boxing Arena last night.💔🕊️”
A viral video captured the dramatic moment during a fight where both fighters exchanged powerful punches.
Olanrewaju suddenly staggered and fell to the ground. Initially, the referee thought it was a knockdown, but it quickly became clear that something was seriously wrong.
Medical personnel immediately attempted to revive him, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.

Olanrewaju, a well-respected figure in Nigerian boxing, formerly held the national and West African light-heavyweight titles.
His professional career included 23 fights, resulting in 13 wins (12 by knockout). However, he had recently faced challenges, losing four consecutive bouts before the tragic event.
