Uganda is out of the 2023 IBA Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan after sole representative Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jnr lost to 2020 Tokyo Olympian Eskekhan Madiev.

Ssenyange came so close to victory in the round of 32 bout in the elite men’s 67-71Kg Light Middleweight category but fell to the Georgian by points.

The Ugandan boxer started strongly in the first round and was the better fighter in the ring landing several punches that gave him victory in the bout’s opener.

While Madiev chose to start aggressively, Ssenyange was more technical.

He landed several punches that saw him sail with a better score over Madiev.

However, Madiev bounced back in the second round, reducing Ssenyange to the defensive as he worked him out in the ring.

The third round was too close to call from both fighters and it took the judges to award the decision to Madiev.

Madiev is a familiar villain in Uganda’s boxing as the junior European champion defeated the then Ugandan Bombers captain Shadir Musa Bwogi in the welterweight category round of 16 at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
