The controversial that broke Netflix's live streaming record has been met with bizarre consequences.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has handed down 28-day suspensions to boxing legend Mike Tyson and social media sensation Jake Paul following their controversial eight-round bout in Dallas. 

While the fight shattered streaming records, garnering a staggering 65 million concurrent views on Netflix and peaking at 38 million in the U.S. alone, it left fans and critics divided.

According to MMA Junkie, under TDLR rules, fighters must rest for three days per round fought, leading to the mandatory suspension.

 Despite the fight’s success in drawing an audience, Tyson, 58, struggled with stamina after an impressive opening, while 27-year-old Paul capitalized on the opportunity to secure a unanimous decision victory.

“I’m sorry I didn’t knock him out,” Paul told fans afterward, admitting he pulled his punches out of respect for the aging champion. 

Paul’s gesture was praised by some but criticized by others as a lackluster showing in a highly anticipated bout.

Jake Paul: From controversy to cruiserweight dreams

While Tyson used the fight as another chapter in his exhibition tour, Paul has loftier ambitions.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer sees his victory as a stepping stone to a cruiserweight title. “I truly believe I can be a champion within the next 24 months,” Paul declared.

The fight’s success as the most-streamed sporting event in history has solidified Paul’s reputation as one of boxing’s biggest draws, but the bout itself was criticized for its lack of intensity. 

Fans of women’s boxing drew comparisons to the co-main event between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, which showcased grit and skill, unlike the main event.
