The International Testing Agency (ITA) announced on Saturday that the 22-year-old African Games lightweight champion had tested positive for furosemide, a diuretic often used as a masking agent for other performance-enhancing drugs.

A sample collected on Thursday, July 25, revealed a positive result, according to the ITA.

"The athlete has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended until the resolution of the matter in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Olympic Games Paris 2024," said an ITA statement.

Ogunsemilore was scheduled to compete in the round of 16 on Monday as the fourth seed in the women's 60-kilogram category. She was a rising star in the sport, having won the African Games title earlier this year and a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

This is the second doping case to emerge from the Paris Olympics. On Friday, the ITA announced that Iraqi judoka Sajjad Sehen had tested positive for two anabolic steroids.

Pulse Sports reported that Nigeria has only two representatives from boxing Cynthia Ogunsemilore and Adams Olaore.

Cynthia will compete in the Women’s Lightweight 60kg and Adams in the Men’s Heavyweight 92kg.

With the disqualification of Cynthia, Adams will be the only boxer competing in Paris and will be hoping to break the 28-year-old record.

Nigeria last won a medal in the boxing event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where Donkan Dokiwari secured bronze in the super heavyweight category.
