Achieng is set to face off against Argentina's Edith Soledad Matthysse on June 10.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Penina Malonza has promised to walk with Sarah Achieng as she prepares for her World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Women's World Super lightweight against Edith Soledad Matthysse of Argentina on June 10.

Malonza said she will be keen to draw support for Achieng from Parliament since she is putting the country on the global map.

She added that she will also seek the support of governors considering she works with them in her ministry.

“I want to promise the country that we will be standing behind Sarah. I will pull the Cabinet Secretaries to come on board. I have also been a Deputy Governor before and I will be pulling them too. Governor Sakaja should be in the lineup," she said.

"I will also be working closely with Parliamentary committees and I will also request them to support Sarah. We are supporting our own brand, we must support our very own."

She also lauded Achieng for her hard work and resilience and noted that she is a hero who has represented the country well.

“She is a woman and I’m very proud of her. She has made it in this male dominated sport and I want to applaud her for the far she has come,” said Malonza.

She added that she will also be keen to work closely with the president of the World Boxing Federation in order to fill the loopholes that are currently affecting the sport in the country.

She also expressed concern towards how women in boxing are treated and promised to burn the midnight oil to ensure they are safe to pursue their dreams without discrimination.
