Matovu, the top seed in the welter weight category, will face Sande Simon in the main bout on the night as Season two of the competition returns for its sixth week.

Ukasha Matovu wants to turn heads when he makes his debut at this season’s Uganda Boxing Federation Champions League on Saturday, at Club Obligato.

Matovu, the top seed in the welter weight category, will face Sande Simon in the main bout on the night as Season two of the competition returns for its sixth week.

Matovu got the better of Sande in both their previous meeting last season, scoring 5-0 and 4-1 in both fights.

Matovu alias The Spartan is adamant that the contest will not see the judges’ scorecards, because he will deliver a lesson to his opponent.

“My opponent (Sande) will definitely bite the dust in the fight,” he told Pulse Sports, adding; “He still has a lot to learn, and I will give him a proper lesson in the ring.”

“I know a lot about him because we shared a Gym before but he later went astray. So, he is going to learn the hard way that I remained with the best techniques,” Matovu stated.

“I know he has taken a couple of lessons from me, but those are just steps. The bigger lessons will be delivered tomorrow (Saturday).”

“My preparations for Saturday’s fight have been up there, my Coach (Lawrence ‘Loola’ Kalyango) doesn’t entertain laziness and that means that I am already fit to do whatever it takes,” he added.

That statement is not Matovu boasting, but rather a fact based on his Champions League career.

He holds and impressive 5-1-1 record, including five victories, one draw and one defeat, in his seven fights from last season, which also include double victories over Sande and Umar Nvule.

The bout comes days after the Spartan was included on the Uganda boxing national team, the Bombers, that will participate in the Africa Boxing Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Matovus is already looking beyond the fight as he promises to make the most of his chance.

“This fight means a lot to me, automatically I am on the National team but this fight is for me to prove all the doubters and make a statement that I am serious on chasing my goals,” Matovu stressed.

“My focus is to be the best in the Country, I want to start with winning some medals for Uganda and I hope to begin with this one in Cameroon.

Meanwhile, Sande has a debt to settle with his former friend, who he thinks did not deserve to make the team ahead of him.

The current National Open welter weight champion returns to the champions league more equipped after winning only two of his fights last season, both against Nvule and suffering four defeats.

Sande, the Dancing Lion from Nansana Kyebando Boxing Club, also carries the blessing of the streets after taking his training to the streets of Nansana town council and Kampala-Hoima highway.

“The fight against Matovu is just a small matter that I want to finish off,” he told media after their weigh-in today afternoon.

“I am annoyed in the first place that Ukasha was put on the National team and I want to put it clear that I am the one who is supposed to issue him with a Visa.”

“How on earth was he summoned on the National team before beating me? I want to get the answers during these five rounds on Saturday.”

“Everyone should know that I am the best candidate to compete in Cameroon because I have the style to stop the foreigners and I have the best Guard moves in Uganda without doubt.”

“I am going to disprove him and rewrite my name on the National team list. If he can’t beat me, then why is he going to Cameroon? I should be the one to give or deny him a ticket,” he continued.

Over 13 bouts are lined up on the day, including the fight between Kimera Eddie and UPDF’s Amoko Innocent which promises fireworks.

Lukanga Boxing Club’s Kibirige Arafa will meet KCCA Boxing Club’s Juma Ayimo in the other potential cracker,

Champions League promoters Top Boy Promotions have also booked a special bout between Kololo’s Lawrence Tanale and KCCA’s Alex Kanabi.
