Uganda's lightweight pugilist Wasswa Ssali has defeated Democratic of Republic of Congo boxer Kitangila Idris in the semi-finals of the Africa Men's and Women's Championships in Yaounde, Cameroon.
The Lukanga Boxing Club pugilist has defated three opponents advancing from the preliminaries, quaterfinals and the semi-finals.
Arguably the most impressive boxer in the Uganda Bombers camp, Wasswa outpointed Irungu Maina of Kenya in the round of 16 and defeated Burkina Faso boxer Naba Ousmane to qualify for the semi-finals. He has has added Kitangila to his rich list of victims.
The victory means Wasswa will either walk away with a gold or silver medal in the grand finale of the men's lightweight category. Significantly, he will pocket either Shs36m or Shs54m if he loses or wins, respectively.
Earlier in the day, Grace Nankinga's lost in her continental debut as she took on Democratic Republic of Congo opponent Grace Nyembo. Nankinga earned a bye to the semi-finals and walked away a bronze medallist and Shs18m richer.
The other semi-finalists include; Solomon Geko (Heavyweight), Erinah Namutebi (light welterweight), Ukasha Matovu (welterweight) and Okello Ronald (middleweight).

BOXING Grace Nankinga settles for bronze medal in Cameroon
Uganda's flyweight pugilist Grace Nankinga has settled for a bronze medal at the Africa Men's and Women's Elite Championships in Cameroon's capital, Yaounde.
Okello and Ukasha will also face DRC nationals in their bouts tonight.
