The start of the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association U-19 50-Overs League had to be postponed for at least one week following heavy rains across the country.
The much-anticipated start of the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) U-19 50-Overs season, slated for Sunday, April 7, has been deferred to this weekend due to adverse weather conditions.
Vishal Bhojani, the NPCA Fixtures Secretary, officially announced the postponement, citing heavy rainfall across the country in recent days.
"After reviewing the conditions of the grounds due to adverse weather conditions in the past few days with the home team representatives, we have no choice but to postpone the start of the eagerly awaited U19 league to next week," said Bhojani.
He reassured stakeholders of the league's commitment to ensuring its smooth progression despite the setback. "Rest assured, we are fully committed to ensuring this league is played and completed as planned," he added.
Additionally, Bhojani clarified that the fixtures originally scheduled for April 7 would be rescheduled to a later date, with the league now set to commence on April 14, adhering to the previously released fixture list.
The inaugural matches of the league will witness Ruaraka facing off against Swamibapa in a highly anticipated encounter in Group B at Jamhuri. Another Group B clash will see Obuya Academy U19 taking on Cricket Kenya U19 at Lenana grounds.
Group A action will feature Nairobi Gymkhana U19 squaring off against hosts Kongonis at Nairobi Club ground, while Sikh Union U19 will clash with Goan Institute (GI) at Sikh Union.
Notably, the Gymkhana squad boasts talent akin to the Kenya National Under-19 team, with players like Yash Gohil, Stian Smith, and Dhir Patel in their ranks. Yash Talati, an overaged player, adds experience to the Gymkhana line-up.
The NPCA U-19 50-Overs competition, divided into Groups A and B, has attracted 10 teams, although not all will bat off this weekend.
Cutchi Leva and Kanbis U19s have byes and will keenly observe the proceedings of week 1.
