India's all-rounder Hardik Pandya to miss World Cup games, with fast bowler Prasidh Krishna stepping in as his replacement.

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been sidelined for the remainder of the ICC Cricket World Cup due to an ankle injury.

The 30-year-old cricketer sustained the injury in the clash against Bangladesh on Thursday 19 October and has since missed India's subsequent matches.

The unfortunate incident occurred during India's victorious encounter with Bangladesh, where Pandya played no further part post-injury and was promptly taken for medical scans.

The scans revealed ligament damage, and Pandya has been in the throes of rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Despite intensive recovery efforts, it has been confirmed that Pandya will not heal in time to partake in the crucial upcoming stages of the tournament.

In light of this, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, known for his prowess in claiming 29 wickets in 17 one-day internationals, has been announced as Pandya's replacement.

"It's tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup," said a disheartened Pandya.

His heartfelt statement continued, "I'll be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special, and I'm sure we'll make everyone proud."

The silver lining in this cloud is the return of Mohammed Shami, whose performance has been nothing short of remarkable, taking 14 wickets in just three matches.

Shami's contribution has been pivotal in India's unbeaten streak in the tournament, including three convincing victories in the matches played without Pandya.

India's formidable form has seen them become the first team to secure a semi-final berth, with seven wins in as many games.

The upcoming fixture against South Africa, scheduled for Sunday in Kolkata, is anticipated to be a decider for the top spot in the points table.

India's final league match will be against the Netherlands in Bengaluru on Sunday 12 November, a game that could set the tone for their semi-final approach.
