Nigeria Cricket Announces Squad for ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup Qualifier

The qualifiers are slated to take place from July 21 through July 30 in 2023, and Nigeria is getting ready to face off against 5 other nations.

The Nigeria Cricket Federation has announced that the squad of Nigeria's national under-19 men's cricket team, the Junior Yellow Greens, will represent the country in the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup Africa Division 1 qualifier, and they are ready for action in Tanzania.

The qualifiers are slated to take place from July 21 through July 30 in 2023, and Nigeria is getting ready to face off against 5 other nations.

The Secretary General of the Federation, Taiwo Oriss, announced that the team will depart, the 14-man roster that will represent Nigeria in Dar es Salaam.

The Junior Yellow Greens' 14-man roster for the Division 1 qualification for the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup in Africa.

He said, “All modalities have been put in place to ensure that the players are fully concentrated on achieving the basic minimum of qualifying for the ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka in 2024.

“The Board of the Federation led by Mr. Uyi Akpata have also provided all technical support and huge investments into preparations and we are very optimistic that the boys will do the country proud.”

The Full Squad

The team will be led by long-standing Captain Ridwan Abdulkareem, supported by the talented Prosper Useni. Others include Chiemelie Udekwe, Izuchukwu Okeke, Selim Salau, Joshua Asia, Joshua Sunday, Paul Pam, Chijioke Okeke, and Solomon Chilemayan to mention a few.

After putting in a lot of effort over the past few months and earning a spot on the team rightfully, Chidi Owunbualili will make his team debut.

The journey to the world cup began in Nigeria in October 2022 when Kenya and Sierra Leone joined the hosts to secure tickets to this thrilling Division 1 match.

Nigeria has been making preparations ever since the change of events, beginning with the open camp in Abuja that took place three weeks before 2022 came to an end.

The Junior Yellow Greens left the shores of the country for Kigali on the 13th of July and will make their official arrival for the qualifier on the 21st of July. Other countries competing for the 1 slot ticket in this tournament are Namibia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone.
