Spotify released a playlist of 100 tracks from FIFA '98 to FIFA '23 featuring some of Afrobeat's finest acts
EA Sports is set to bring back some of the greatest soundtracks of all-time as part of its upcoming World Cup mode in FIFA 23.
It is EA Sports' last title in the football game series, and they have chosen to celebrate 25 years of EA Sports and FIFA with a catalogue of all-time anthems?
To that effect global music streaming platform Spotify have also curated a playlist of 100 of the best of EA’s iconic soundtracks featuring some of Nigeria’s finest artistes including Grammy-Award winner Burna Boy as well as Rema, Pheelz and BNXN fka.Buju.
Spotify’s mix of 100 tracks from 25 years of @EASPORTSFIFA soundtrack history was created for fans and lovers of the popular soccer video game franchise to enjoy and bring back fond memories of previous editions over the years.
Nigerian artistes featured on Spotify’s EA Sports FIFA Mix
Burna Boy
Burna Boy is featured on the playlist for the famous 2019 collaboration with UK rapper Dave titled Location. The song which currently has over 367 million streams on Spotify alone is arguably Dave’s biggest song till date and the song also featured on EA’s soundtracks for FIFA 21’s VOLTA Football mode.
Rema
The list also features another of Nigeria’s next generation of afropop stars Rema. The MAVIN signee was featured on UK Producer JAE5’s Dimension alongside British rapper Skepta. The song currently has over 25 million streams on Spotify and was also featured on EA’s soundtracks for FIFA 22’S VOLTA Football mode.
Pheelz & BNXN fka. Buju
The duo broke the internet way before their 2022 smash-hit collaboration Finesse dropped.
Even though the song was officially released earlier in March, the snippet had already gone viral on every social media platform weeks before the full song was officially published.
The release of the snippet for Finesse was one of the most viral snippets in the Nigerian Music Industry, leaving fans desperately craving for it's official release.
The song which garnered over 19 million views on TikTok led to what was called the #FolakeChallenge which TikTok users around the world vibed to by share stories about the things they do to finesse despite the possibility of going broke.
The song currently has over 69 million views on Spotify and was featured on EA’s Global soundtracks for FIFA 23.
Their inclusion also sees them join Fireboy and Nneka as Nigerians whose songs have featured on FIFA soundtrack. Fireboy's 'Party Scatter' was part of the soundtrack for FIFA 2021 while Nneka's 'Kangpe' feat Wesley Williams made the FIFA 2010 soundtrack.
FIFA 23: Qatar 2022 World Cup Update
The World Cup update will launch as part of FIFA 23 on November 9 and will see an array of new modes centred around the upcoming tournament in Qatar.
Also, players will have the option to change groups and substitute teams that didn’t make it to the finals, offering a customized tournament experience.
Players can participate in the Online Tournament Mode as any one of the qualified nations, competing against players around the world in Knockout Stages.
