Two-time AFCON winner Herve Renard has cleared the air about rumours connecting him to the vacant Belgium position
French coach Herve Renard, who famously won two Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia and Ivory Coast has denied the rumours that he sent in a proposal for the recently vacant post of Belgium’s national team manager.
Renard sets the record straight about Belgium rumours
Renard, currently with Saudi Arabia’s national team was rumoured to have sent in an application to coach Belgium who recently parted with long-term manager Roberto Martinez. With the post still vacant many coaches have been linked with taking the job including Renard, but he has publicly denied ever asking for the job.
He took to his Twitter account to dispel the rumours, giving a short and concise response to the stories, stating plainly that the gossip was not true.
He stated on Twitter, “the news suggesting I presented a proposal to coach the Belgium National team is totally false.”
Renard fully committed to Saudi Arabia
Renard committed to Saudi Arabia Renard appears committed to the project with the Saudi Arabia national team which he has been with since 2019, and not even a plum job like Belgium can shift his focus on what is required of him in the gulf nation.
Renard has been with Saudi Arabia for three years now and helped them qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup by topping their qualifying group which also included Japan and Australia.
He was also in charge of Saudi Arabia when they shocked the world by defeating eventual champions Argentina in their opening group game at the World Cup.
His exploits with the national teams of Zambia, Ivory Coast, and Saudi Arabia put him in the conversation for the Belgium job, and there is little doubt that he would have been great for them, but currently, Renard prefers to stay with Saudi Arabia.
