Gerrard is ready to come to his former side’s rescue in their pursuit of the England international.
Steven Gerrard has said he is ready to help his former side, Liverpool, in their mission to land Jude Bellingham this summer.
Liverpool have been a long-time admirer of Bellingham, with the Reds expected to make a move for the Borussia Dortmund star this summer.
However, the Reds are not the only ones interested in signing the talented English man this summer, with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United all monitoring Bellingham’s future at Dortmund.
Liverpool are reportedly in the pole position to get the 19-year-old, though, and Gerrard is ready to help if needed. Bellingham has been touted as the next Gerrard, with Liverpool reportedly ready to use that to convince him to sign a deal with them.
Gerrard ready to play Liverpool's agent in Bellingham pursuit
Also, Bellingham has called Gerrard his football idol, and the Liverpool legend is ready to use that to convince his fellow English man to sign a deal with the Merseyside giants.
“All he [Bellingham] needs to do is send his diary to me when he’s got a free day. I’ll fly to Dortmund personally, take him out for a nice dinner, and we’ll talk about it, Gerrard told BT Sport as per The Anfield Insider.
Gerrard went on to say that Bellingham is the type of midfielder Liverpool need, saying he was impressed with what he saw from the youngster at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, although he also urged the club to keep their options open.
“He’s [Bellingham] the obvious one, because I do think that at the moment, now that Henderson has adapted his game and he covers Trent on that right hand side, Thiago‘s more of a footballer, Fabinho stays, Liverpool are lacking this running No. 8 who can arrive in the box, get you a goal, whose got that power, that burst, who can leave someone for dead.
“Bellingham ticks all those boxes. He’s the obvious one, but I think it’s important we don’t become obsessed with one midfielder,” Gerrard concluded.
Liverpool face a huge challenge in getting Bellingham, though, as they are currently off the pace in the race for the Champions League. The Reds have a slim chance of qualifying for the Champions League this season unless they win the competition.
Gerrard wants Bellingham to forget about Liverpool's situation
Failure to qualify for Europe’s elite competition could see the Reds fail to land their long-term target.
But Gerrard urged Bellingham to overlook Liverpool’s current situation as the Reds are a massive club for him even without European football.
“Liverpool are in the middle of the table, but I’m sure Jude’s bright enough to go ‘hang on a minute, there’s a stand going up here, it’s going to be a 60,000 stadium, they’ve got one of the best five managers in the world, they’ve won the Premier League of late, they’ve been in Champions League finals of late, they play very well here, they’ve got some fabulous players, they develop players’,” he said.
Nonetheless, Bellingham is expected to make his decision before the summer.
