The Mexican club has reportedly asked the Brazilian footballer for a millionaire compensation over breach of a clause in his contract.
The case of Dani Alves continues to add new chapters, with the Brazilian footballer facing fresh setbacks since his arrest last month.
Despite all the attempts of his lawyer, Cristóbal Martell, to discredit the firm version of the victim of the alleged sexual assault that took place on December 30 in the Barcelona nightclub of Sutton, the former Barcelona star looks more likely to eventually remain behind bars for a longer spell.
After listening to the story of the 23-year-old and the changing statements of Alves, the Court number 15 of Barcelona decided to send the footballer to prison and without bail pending his trial.
His lawyer, Martell, has already filed an appeal to get him out of jail, either with the withdrawal of the passport, a restraining order or the imposition of a telematic bracelet, also ensuring that the Brazilian international will not escape justice.
However, the dismissal of the player from his most recent team - Mexican club Pumas, has now taken a new twist as well.
According to a fresh report, the club now asks Alves for a millionaire compensation.
Their demand is said to be in light of the defender having violated the terms of behavior contained in his contract signed in July 2022, portal 'UOL' reports.
An email which the source has access to as per AS, reveals specifically the contract that binds Alves and club, and where different clauses are indicated that could penalize it.
Among the assumptions highlights the participation of the player "in any scandal that is made public", and "in any act that is considered a crime according to the legislation of the country in which it took place", the latter case being the one that requires economic compensation from the player.
Pumas ask Dani Alves to pay €4.5 million
According to the report, the 39-year-old Alves who already faces a potential divorce from his wife Joana Sanz imminently could be forced to pay heavily after a breach of a clause in his Pumas contract.
"For very serious infringements of the player, in the terms provided for in the fourteenth and fifteenth clauses of the contract, the player is irremediably obliged to reimburse the club the payment of the compensation provided for in the fourteenth clause of the contract, in the amount of five million US dollars (4.5 million euros), net, that is, free of any tax or withholding", Point.
In the email, highlighted by portal 'UOL' it is also specified that Pumas reserve "the right to take any and all actions before FIFA and/or any other relevant, competent jurisdiction, to claim the agreed compensation and that includes the fifteenth clause of the contract".
Why is Dani Alves in prison?
The 39-year-old former Barcelona defender was arrested two weeks ago for an alleged sexual assault.
Alves was taken into custody after an allegation was made against him on December 30, 2022.
The former Brazil international was at the Mossos d’Esquadra de Les Corts police station in Barcelona on Friday morning, to testify against the allegations.
He was then taken to the Ciutat de la Justicia, where he attended a court hearing.
He was sent to jail by the court without bail, while an investigation continues on the case.
So far, Alves has denied the accusations levelled against him and has left the Brians 1 prison on Monday, where he was placed on Friday, and he has been moved to Brians 2.
The authorities had taken the decision to transfer the veteran Brazilian right-back in order to guarantee his safety.
