Manchester City have said they are surprised by the allegations levelled against them by the Premier League

Manchester City have issued a statement communicating their surprise at the outcome of the Premier League’s investigations and the subsequent decision to charge them with 100 violations of the league’s financial rules.

Manchester City respond to allegations made by the Premier League

Manchester City were charged with multiple counts of breaching the Premier League’s rules on fair play, declaration of revenue and assistance with investigations among others, but the club says that they do not understand why they are being charged with these alleged offences, especially given their cooperation with the league on the matter at hand.

Part of their official statement read, “Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.’

City happy with independent commission

The Cityzens, on the other hand, have welcomed the Premier League's announcement of an independent commission to review the charges and believe that justice will be served and served permanently in their favour at the end of the proceedings.

The rest of their statement reads, “The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.

“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”

Manchester City risk a points deduction similar to the one faced by Serie A record-winners Juventus who were docked 15 points earlier in the year, and will be doing everything possible to avoid being in the same circumstance as the Old Lady, especially as they contest for a third consecutive Premier League title.
