Carlo Ancelotti was reported to have agreed to leave Real Madrid for the Brazilian national team at the end of the season, but the CBF have put out a statement denying it.
Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, was earlier reported to have agreed to take over as head coach of Brazil's men's national team in July; however, the CBF, Brazil's football governing body, have come out to refute the claims.
The role of head coach of the Selecao became vacant after former coach Tite left the job following a World Cup quarter-final exit to Croatia. Ancelotti was initially approached, and the Italian manager publicly stated that he was not leaving Real Madrid.
New reports surfaced earlier today claiming the manager has already agreed to become the head coach of the five-time world champions; those claims have now been denied by the CBF.
CBF dispels rumours
Earlier, ESPN Brazil reported that Ancelotti had said yes to becoming the manager of Brazil and would sign a three-year contract with the Selecao that would last until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
The CBF put out a statement on their website claiming the claims in the report were unfounded.
"The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) informs that the news released this Friday (10/02) that the coach of Real Madrid, Italian Carlo Ancelotti, is the new coach of the Brazilian national team is unfounded," was the official statement, per CBF's website.
Earlier reports claiming Ancelotti said yes to Brazil
ESPN Brazil reported that Ancelotti had said yes to becoming the new head coach of Brazil and was set to sign a contract that would run from July 2023 to August 2026, after the World Cup jointly hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada would have come to an end.
The reports stated that a contract was yet to be signed and both parties would hold off on announcing the agreement as Ancelotti still has a contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2024, but the 63-year-old ex-Chelsea manager was reported to have already given them the green light.
It was said that Real Madrid's Brazilian stars, Vinicius, Rodrygo, and Eder Militao, who were members of Tite's World Cup squad at Qatar 2022, are well aware of the development and that although they are sad that they would lose him as a manager on the club level, they believe he is a great candidate to lead the Selecao Canarinha.
The CBF were also reported to be in search of a manager on an interim basis, as they have games coming up in the next international break in March. Ramon Menezes, who currently oversees Brazil's U-20 team, was said to be one of those currently being examined for the role.
Ancelotti, whose extensive CV includes the two UEFA Champions League titles he won with current club Real Madrid, has never managed a national team; however, he served as Italy's assistant manager under head coach Arrigo Sacchi between 1992 and 1995.
Ancelotti on the rumours
When Tite left the role last year, Ancelotti was asked about the possibility of becoming the manager of Brazil, and he replied that he had no plans of leaving Real Madrid.
More recently, at the pre-game press conference for the Club World Cup final clash against Al-Hilal, the 63-year-old was asked again, and his reply was: "I have a contract until 2024. I don't know what I can say, I didn't know."
Ancelotti remains the manager of Real Madrid until at least the end of the season, and he will lead his team into their third final of the season, the CWC final, on Saturday.
