The Ikorodu boys showed no love at all even on Valentine's Day as both sides clashed in Lagos.
Sporting Lagos will certainly not enjoy this Valentine's Day after a painful day at the office against Ikorodu City.
Ikorodu City produced an excellent performance to serve Sporting premium breakfast following a 4-2 win in the Lagos State Football Association, LSFA, preseason tournament.
Three goals were scored in either half, with four different scorers getting on the score sheet for Ikorodu.
Ikorodu boys run riot
It was a case of no love lost as the boys from Ikorodu went on a rampage at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos on Tuesday morning.
Both teams went head-to-head in their second game of the tournament as they continued their preparation ahead of the 2023 NNL season.
But it was the boys in yellow who showed their intentions early enough after a blistering start saw them blow Sporting away with a 3-0 lead at the break.
After the break, Ikorodu extended their lead to 4-0 as Sporting Lagos looked down and out.
Sporting fights back
The Ikorodu Boys dominated most of the friendly and deserved their lead heading into the final minutes of the game.
But Sporting finished the stronger of the two sides and ensured the result was more respectable with two late goals.
The second goal of the day for Sporting was truly a thing of beauty as it came after a fantastic sequence of play from the Tech Boys, who took full advantage of the lovely Onikan pitch that time to play some wonderful tiki-taka football to end on a high.
What the result means
Ikorodu City’s win sees them continue their excellent start to the preseason competition with two wins in two matches.
Ikorodu defeated Dannaz FC 4-1 in their opening and nearly repeated the feat against Sporting Lagos in the second.
