One of the world’s wealthiest individuals, Elon Musk is reportedly monitoring the situation surrounding Manchester United’s sale and could make a move to acquire the club.
The Glazers, Manchester United’s current American owners have put the club up for sale, and billionaire, Elon Musk has emerged as a potential buyer.
The Glazers set a deadline for any incoming bids to be submitted by Friday but it is believed that the deadline remains flexible.
A huge bid would be needed to tempt them to sell, believed to be in excess of £5 Billion.
Elon Musk reportedly in the running to acquire Manchester United
Musk has made comments in the past regarding the potential purchase of United but those reports were eventually dismissed as a running joke. However, according to the Daily Mail, Musk sees this as an interesting opportunity to align himself with one of the World’s biggest football teams, as a major investor.
Musk is one of the richest men on the planet with a net worth of around £153 billion. The South-African born billionaire who recently purchased Twitter is also the founder of Tesla and SpaceX.
Big picture
Whether or not Musk makes a bd for United remains to be seen and up till this point, the only person to publicly declare interest in acquiring the club remains one of the United Kingdom’s wealthiest people, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
However, it has been reported that there is plenty of interest from US investors as well as investment groups in Qatar
