The Nigerian star has not picked up a new injury, but he will have to undergo another surgery on his face.
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen will go through another surgery on his face, although not immediately.
Osimhen currently plays with a mask on his face after suffering a nasty facial injury in Napoli’s clash against Inter Milan.
Osimhen's road to recovery
The Super Eagles star broke multiple bones in his face after going for the ball with Milan Skriniar.
Osimhen was subsequently taken off from the encounter before undergoing surgery on his face, with the 24-year-old needing metal plates and screws in his face.
The ex-Lille man missed two months of action as a result of the injury before returning for the second half of the season.
The man behind the mask
However, following his return, Osimhen wore a mask and has made it part of his matchday gear since then.
Although the Nigeria international can now play without the mask, Osimhen has kept on playing with the mask.
Nonetheless, the doctor who operated on Osimhen insists the Nigerian striker will still have to undergo another surgery irrespective of whether he keeps playing with the mask or not.
The doctor revealed Osimhen needs to have the metal plates and screws inserted in his face removed sooner or later.
When asked why Osimhen still wears the mask, he said, as per Spazionapoli, “I don't know. It [mask] has been modelled and remodelled with the player's assistance so that it doesn't cause him any discomfort.
“Sooner or later, you will have to think about removing the plates and screws that were applied after the serious accident,” he added.
It is unlikely that Osimhen will take off the mask, though, as it has become his signature wear. The mask has also become popular among Napoli fans and can be found on some of their merchandise, including cakes.
