AC Milan held on their 1-0 win from the first-leg, knocking out Tottenham after a 0-0 draw.
AC Milan came into the game with a 1-0 win from the first-leg, knowing a clean sheet would see them through. The onus was on Tottenham to break them down, but they did not manage to dominate the game, which was even in performance and in score line as they played 0-0.
Tottenham hosted Milan at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as they looked to overturn a first-leg deficit and qualify for the quarterfinal, but their performance was flat on the night, and they did not make Milan uncomfortable.
How it happened
Tottenham had to win the game, but Milan came out of the gate earlier. Tottenham improved their intensity slightly, and the game became more end-to-end; however, neither team managed to break the deadlock.
In the first 45 minutes, both teams struggled in the final third, with the best chances coming from dead ball situations. Junior Messias got on the end of the best lot for the visitors; however, he dragged his effort wide.
Conte's half-time team talk did not seem to inspire his side to a better performance, as Milan were in charge at the start of the second half as well.
Spurs needed Fraser Forster to be on his game, denying Brahim Diaz, who was through again, and soon after, he was halting Olivier Giroud's effort.
Tottenham, as has become the norm this season, came out of their shells in the second half.
Tottenham's task on the night became more difficult when Christian Romero received his second yellow card of the evening for a challenge on Theo Hernandez.
Tottenham pushed for an equaliser regardless, with Kane coming close to scoring but for a brilliant save by Mike Maignan. However, their adventure left them open at the back, and Milan had two chances to make them pay later on, but poor decisions from the Milan attackers saved their blushes.
