Herve Renard is rumoured to be on the shortlist for the vacant France Women's national team job
Former Zambia, Morocco, and Ivory Coast coach Herve Renard has been touted as one of the favourites to replace outgoing France Women’s National Team boss Corinne Diacre, who was sacked earlier today.
France search for Corinne Diacre replacement
According to reports coming out of France, the 54-year-old manager is highly regarded by the executive committee of the French Football Federation and is among a shortlist of four for the vacant job that also includes current Lyon manager and FIFA The Best nominee Sara Bompastor, who represented France 156 times as a player.
Other potential replacements for the outgoing Diacre include current Paris FC manager Sandrine Soubeyrand, Patrice Lair of Bordeaux, and PSG coach Gérard Prêcheur.
Renard, currently the coach of the Saudi Arabia national team, has recently turned down the prospect of leaving the Green Falcons and is thought to be focused on continuing his good work with them.
Renard could be tempted to leave Saudi Arabia
Renard has been with the Saudi Arabia national team since 2019 and was in charge for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he guided them to a shock victory over eventual champions Argentina.
Being from France, Renard might be swayed to accept to coach one of the country’s senior national teams and appear in a second World Cup in less than a calendar year.
Should Renard accept the job, he will be tasked with mending a broken French team that was on the brink of catastrophe towards the end of Diacre’s tenure.
He, or indeed any manager that accepts the post, will need to incorporate players who had quit the team back into the fold and ensure that they have a working system going into the FIFA World Cup which is only three months away.
