So far, the Umuahia club have picked up 14 points from a possible 27, scoring 11 goals in nine matches, and currently sits fourth in Group B.
Abia Warriors head coach Erasmus Onuh has stated confidently that his team will have a successful 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Onuh, whose Abia Warriors are currently ranked fourth in Group B of the NPFL, behind Lobi Stars, Rivers United, and Sunshine Stars, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance prior to the league's mid-season break.
So far, the Umuahia club have picked up 14 points from a possible 27, while scoring 11 goals in nine matches.
Onuh says Abia Warriors aiming for good finish
Although his side sits just one point off playoff places in Group B, Onuh admits that Abia Warriors are not where he wants them to be, yet.
“The team I have is not yet where I want them to be but I must say the boys are doing well," the Abia Warriors gaffer said according to ThisDayLive.
"We are still building but one thing that I want to assure the fans is that we will finish well. The management of the team has equally been doing well and I pray that they give me the free hand to deliver.
“You can see that this season you can win anywhere. That shows the referees and the league body, IMC, are doing their job. I want to commend that and urge them to remain fair and firm when the second round gets underway,” he added.
Abia Warriors to play Rivers United in next fixture
Upon the return of the league after the Nigerian general elections, Abia Warriors will make a short trip to Port Harcourt to take on champions Rivers United.
In their first meet almost a week, Abia Warriors were forced to settle for a point when Rivers United came visiting at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
The rescheduled fixture was the ninth between both clubs since Abia Warriors' promotion to the top flight in 2017. Abia Warriors' last visit to Port Harcourt ended in a 2-1 defeat.
