The record Nigerian champions will alongside Ahudiya Nnem FC, represent Abia State in the national competition scheduled to start in April.
As a part of preparations for the 2023 Nigerian Federation Cup, Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Enyimba wrapped up their campaign in the Abia State FA Cup with a thrilling 4-1 victory over non-league side Ahudiya Nnem.
The entertaining affair at the Enyimba Stadium was the conclusion of the Federation Cup qualifying series for teams from Abia State.
Irrespective of Sunday's result, Enyimba, alongside Ahudiya Nnem: who had defeated NPFL side Abia Warriors in the semifinals, will represent Abia in the 72-team tournament in April.
Enyimba retain Abia FA Cup
Enyimba started the State final well, piling early pressure on the non-league side and almost got their opener, however, early attempts from both Ikenna Cooper and Eze Ekwutoziam could only come off the posts.
The Aba giants finally broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a perfect counterattack that ended with NPFL February player of the month Chukwuemeka Obioma, teeing off Moses Omoduemuke.
The second half saw Enyimba start from where they left off, with red-hot Obioma scoring his own goal with a header in the 53rd minute, before Ikenna Cooper made it three, three minutes later.
Ahudiya Nnem eventually got a consolation goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Enyimba once again showed their superiority with Moses Omoduemuke, responding two minutes later to bring the score to 4-1.
Other State FA Cup results
Other state qualifiers from the weekend, saw five-time Nigerian champions Heartland qualify for the Federation Cup following a 2-1 win in the semifinals of the Imo FA Cup.
NPFL side Remo Stars will be missing in the tournament after Beyond Limits and Gateway United progressed to the final of the Ogun State FA Cup.
Meanwhile, Rangers boss Abdu Maikaba has stated that their win in the Enugu State FA Cup will motivate his side to perform better in the NPFL. They will represent Enugu State alongside Nigeria League One (NLO) side, Ingas.
