Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope has been replaced in the England squad by Tottenham Hotspur’s Fraser Forster due to injury.
Nick Pope was called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate on Thursday along with fellow Premier League shot-stoppers, Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale.
However, Pope who has kept a remarkable 12 clean sheets this season, will stay back to undergo treatment on a minor injury.
According to The Athletic, Pope had undergone some treatment prior to Newcastle's 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Friday. Based on recent developments it would appear he is still struggling.
Tottenham's Fraser Forster called up to England squad
Fraser Forster has been called up to replace the injured Pope. Forster has not played for England since 2016, but hit a purple patch, with 13 appearances for Tottenham this season.
The 35-year-old has been playing in place of the injured Hugo Lloris since the start of February.
England travel to Naples to take on Italy before returning to Wembley to face Ukraine in two Euro 2024 qualifiers this month.
