Iheanacho and Iwobi headline Early Birds at Super Eagles camp ahead of AFCON 2023 Qualifiers
Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanancho was one of the early birds at the Super Eagles’ John Woods Hotel abode as invited players begin to troop in for the double 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Guinea Bissau’s Djurtus.
Iheanacho is also joined by fellow Premier League and Everton star Alex Iwobi.
Iwobi who made his Super Eagles of Nigeria debut in 2015 has featured over 60 times for the national team and looks set to star in Jose Peseiro’s midfield ahead of this Friday’s crucial tie.
Joe Aribo is the third Super Eagles star hitting the camp from the Premier League.
The Southampton star has struggled for sufficient game time since joining the Saints in the summer of 2022.
However, Aribo has impressed in the Super Eagles jersey since making his debut in 2019 and the 26-year-old looks set to continue that run.
Ademola Lookman of Atalanta also joins the list of the early birds.
The 25-year-old has shone brightly since arriving the Serie A last summer.
Lookman who plays for Atalanta switched international allegiance to Nigeria having represented England at u-21, u-20, and u-19 level.
Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma captained Germany at the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand in 2015 before committing to Nigeria a few years later and is expected to hold the fort in the Super Eagles' defence.
