Alex Iwobi has begged fans to keep supporting the Super Eagles vowing a better Super Eagles performance in their next game against Guinea
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has asked for patience from national team fans, promising improvements in the team's next AFCON 2023 qualifying game against Guinea Bissau.
Iwobi understands fans’ reaction to Guinea Bissau loss
Nigeria fell to an embarrassing loss to Guinea Bissau, currently ranked 118th in the World, but Iwobi has promised worried fans that the result was a one-off and that the Super Eagles would be back to their best in no time.
Iwobi was speaking in the post-game press conference after the Super Eagles’ disappointing loss to Guinea Bissau, when he noted the fans’ frustration with the result, and promised that the team would reflect on the defeat and improve on their performance in the next game.
He said, “First and foremost, as players and staff, we know we have to react to this result, we will look at the game and analyse where we need to improve.”
Iwobi begs fans to stay loyal to Super Eagles
He then prayed the fans to keep supporting the Super Eagles, even after the difficult defeat, and promised that the team will repay that support with an improved performance in their next game against Guinea Bissau.
The only thing I can say to the fans is that they should stick by us because we gave it a hundred and ten per cent, not just for ourselves but for the nation.
“Every time we come here to represent the country we are fighting…I’m telling you now, next game, we are going to do our best to make sure we do better.”
Iwobi and the Super Eagles will have to take on the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau again, this time in Bissau, as they look to take back their pound of flesh.
A victory over Guinea Bissau will see Nigeria reclaim top spot in Group A of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers, and Iowbi and co will be desperate to claim all three points and progress towards qualification for the final tournament.
