Manchester City are said to be in a race with Manchester United for a top midfield target.
Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic but they will have to battle with Manchester City for his signature.
Chelsea's Kovacic entering final year of contract
Kovacic is yet to renew his contract with Chelsea and his current deal expires in June 2024.
The Croatia international has given no indications of a possible renewal and it is looking very likely he may depart in the summer.
Kovacic, 28, has struggled with minor injuries all season but when fit, is a key part of Graham Potter’s Chelsea midfield.
Injuries have limited Kovacic to just 27 appearances so far this season but he has been one of Chelsea’s most impressive performers whenever he is available.
Kovacic, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge as Chelsea try their hardest to stay within Financial Fair Play rules after making 17 signings within the past year.
