Arsenal have had to contend with injuries to key players this season and will be worried about the latest reports regarding one of the club’s key players.
Ghana national team manager Chris Hughton has given an update on Arsenal star Thomas Partey’s fitness.
Arsenal sweat over Partey's fitness
Hughton revealed that the 29-year-old Gunners midfielder is not in the best possible condition to play an important part in Ghana’s qualifying match against Angola.
“Thomas Partey has some small issues. We felt it was too big of a risk to start him against Angola,” Hughton said, as quoted by football.london.
Partey has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season as the club chase a first Premier League title since 2004.
He has played a pivotal role, shielding the back four and helping drive attacks from deep.
Any potential absence would be a blow to Arsenal and the club’s fans will be hoping it is not an issue that keeps him out. It does appear not too serious but Chris Hughton has decided to take a precaution with the situation.
Thomas Partey had earlier explained that he believes his adaptation to the Premier League and his new team took longer than it should have and that played a role in his recurring injuries and first-season struggles.
Big picture for Arsenal
Arsenal are in a terrific position but they will need to maintain a healthy squad to hold off the challenge of Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta has had to contend with Gabriel Jesus being a long term absentee and now, defender Tekehiro Tomiyasu is set to be out for the season.
