The Nigeria international was back among the goals after a poor display for the Super Eagles during the international break.
Ademola Lookman ended his mini-drought in front of goal to help Atalanta to a 3-1 win over David Okereke’s and Cyriel Dessers’ Cremonese at Stadio Giovanni Zini on Saturday afternoon.
It was a perfect response from Lookman, who had a disappointing game for the Super Eagles during the international.
How it happened
Atalanta knew they had to win to keep up their hopes of finishing in the top four alive. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini started Duvan Zapata up front, with Lookman settling for a place on the bench.
Meanwhile, Cremonese coach Davide Ballardini was without David Okereke but Cyriel Dessers was on the bench.
The game kicked off at a slow pace, with both teams failing to create clear chances. Atalanta looked assured in possession but never created many chances in the opening half-hour of the game.

AFCON 2023 Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria: Lookman and Chukwueze out, Simon and Musa in
Lookman and Chukwueze had a disappointing game in the Super Eagles' embarrassing loss to Guinea-Bissau.
However, they would eventually find the breakthrough in the 44th minute through Martin de Roon.
The Dutch international fired home from close range after Cremonese failed to clear their line properly.
Lookman seals Atalanta win
Roon’s goal ensured Atalanta went into the break with a goal lead. The start of the second half was a different ball game, though, as Cremonese restored parity in the 56th minute through Daniel Ciofani’s penalty.
It looked like the momentum was with the home side, but Jeremie Boga, who came on half-time with Lookman, restored Atalanta’s lead in the 72nd minute.

SERIE A Osimhen assists Napoli to victory over Atalanta as Lookman features off the bench
Victor Osimhen notched an assist in Napoli's 2-0 win against Atalanta while Ademola Lookman only managed a late cameo
Cremonese did push for an equaliser, but they went home with tails between their legs at full time as Lookman killed off all hopes they had with a goal in added time.
The Nigerian striker tapped into an empty net for his 13th league goal in 27 league games for La Dea.
The result sees Atalanta jump ahead of Roma and level with AC Milan in fourth place, although they have played one more game than their rivals.
