An exciting match between Liverpool and Arsenal that may determine the league title in May ended in a 2-2 draw at Anfield.
Arsenal went two goals up in the first 30 minutes of the game with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus giving the league leaders the lead but Liverpool pegged back with a goal by Salah before halftime and another in the second half from substitute Firmino.
An incident happened in the first half of the game between Granit Xhaka and Alexander Arnold that led to both players being booked by the referee and Jamie Carragher hitting out on Granit Xhaka for making a ridiculous move on the Liverpool left back.
The Incident
Alexander-Arnold engaged the 30-year-old Swiss player head-on while appearing to be defending rather than playing in midfield.
The 24-year-old Reds midfielder was the target of the Arsenal player's angry outburst after the latter did not take kindly to a challenge on the left side of the storied Merseyside field.
Carragher said, “What is he thinking? 2-0 up away at Anfield, he just throws his arm into Trent. Just ridiculous.” '
Xhaka crucial to Arsenal’s run
During the head-to-head confrontation, main pundit Martin Tyler discussed how the Swiss midfielder has been vital to Arsenal's success this season and how this displayed flashes of his previous behaviour.
Martin said, “He's been a player of real renaissance this season. He reverted to type, set up the retaliation.”
It wasn't the only altercation that occurred during the game; Andy Robertson of Liverpool claims that linesman Constantine Hatzidakis elbowed him after halftime.
Following a two-point loss to Liverpool, Arsenal now sit six points clear of Manchester City and will take on West Ham at the London Stadium the following weekend.
